LucyCooks cookery school at Staveley near Kendal has a new head chef and manager. Cumbrian-born Ryan Blackburn began his career working alongside his chef father in the family business at Broughton Mills near Broughton-in-Furness.
Following the sale of the Blacksmith’s Arms, Ryan spent a year working in Yorkshire followed by two years at the Michelin-starred Holbeck Ghyll at Windermere.
More recently, Ryan worked at Restaurant Martin Wishart and its Cook School in Edinburgh, producing modern British food using cutting edge and classical skills.
It was during his time in Edinburgh that Ryan began his move into food demonstrating, when he was promoted to head chef of the Cook School, undertaking cookery demonstrations at large events.
LucyCooks is planning gourmet dining evenings in order to make good use of Ryan’s Michelin credentials and creative cuisine for confident cook events.
Ryan says: “I’m delighted to be back in my home county and particularly excited to be using some of the best Cumbrian produce that I grew up cooking and eating as a boy.”
